Traffic jam as Mogas at Brooklyn Park sells
The petrol price war broke out when independent retailer On The Run decided to offer fuel under $1 at three of its outlets  matching the deal from Mogas.
General manager Michaela Webster said outlets at Underdale, Plympton and Flinders Park had each sold fuel at 99.9c a litre until 8pm.
Coowner Steve Kosmidis, who forecast his service station would sell about 30,00040,michael kors pas cher,000 litres of unleaded, estimated he sold fuel for at least 30c below cost, in an attempt to draw attention to his new station.
Mr Kosmidis said competition in the industry was ruthless, particularly with the might of heavyweights Woolworths and Coles involved.
"It's a new station (and) we figured that instead of putting money into advertising, we would put it back into our customers' pockets," he said.
"We are an independent, familyrun business and we want to support the people who support us."
He flagged the possibility of running a monthly cheap petrol promotion to keep the industry honest.
The average unleaded fuel price in Adelaide remains 144.6c a litre, according to the RAA.
RAA senior analyst Chris West said the oneoff discounts were great for Adelaide motorists because two large, independent retailers were going "head to head."
"But we don't advocate belowcost selling," he said.
"It seems the large supermarkets and oil majors are sitting on the sidelines."
The last time Adelaide motorists saw fuel sold for under $1 was on February 27, this year, when the Caltex North Adelaide offered petrol for 88 cents a litre for just 30 minutes.
